All at once, Now and Future and Past , 2024, Installation, Mrs. Brainwash
All at once, now and after and before, suggests a temporal ambiguity, hinting at the coexistence of past, present, and future within a singular moment.
A viewer can see at the same time in real a glass on pedestal, a broken glass on the floor. Next to the pedestal plays the video which shows how the glass falls from the pedestal and breaks. Then the video continue and shows how the glass comes back together and returns from the ground to the pedestal.
The installation thus challenges linear notions of time, inviting viewers to contemplate the interconnectedness of temporal states.
The viewer is confronted with multiple layers of reality within the same spatial and temporal frame. The physical presence of the glass on the pedestal and the broken glass on the floor coexists with the video projection depicting the glass's narrative journey. This simultaneous presentation challenges traditional modes of perception, inviting viewers to navigate between different layers of reality and meaning.
The juxtaposition of the physical objects with the video projection introduces a temporal disjunction within the installation. While the glass on the pedestal and the broken glass suggest static moments frozen in time, the video unfolds a dynamic narrative of rupture and restoration. This temporal contrast highlights the fluidity of time and memory, prompting viewers to reflect on the interconnectedness of past, present, and future.
The installation blurs the boundaries between the real and the mediated, inviting viewers to question the authenticity of their sensory experiences. As viewers observe the physical and virtual manifestations of the glass's journey, they confront the limitations of perception and the subjectivity of interpretation. This perceptual ambiguity underscores the role of perspective and context in shaping meaning within the artistic encounter.
The video component of the installation adds a layer of narrative complexity to the viewer's experience. Through its visual storytelling, the video unfolds a sequence of events—from the glass's fall and fragmentation to its restoration and return to wholeness. This narrative arc imbues the installation with a sense of temporal progression, inviting viewers to engage with the glass's transformative journey on both a literal and metaphorical level.
By presenting multiple elements simultaneously, the installation encourages active viewer participation and engagement. Viewers are invited to navigate between different focal points, constructing their own interpretations and narratives from the fragmented glimpses of reality presented before them. This interactive aspect of the installation highlights the agency of the viewer in shaping the meaning and significance of the artwork.
This installation offers a rich and multi-layered exploration of perception, temporality, and narrative complexity. By seamlessly integrating physical and mediated elements, the artwork challenges viewers to question their assumptions about reality and invites them to actively participate in the construction of meaning within the artistic encounter.
